Tekst achterflap

Following a recent restoration campaign, the Gruuthusemuseum and the nearby Church of Our Lady (Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekerk) form a contemporary museum and heritage complex in the historic heart of Bruges. The museum itself is located in a monumental city palace dating from the fifteenth century. The building’s most famous resident was Lodewijk van Gruuthuse, a nobleman in the service of the dukes of Burgundy, who did much to shape its architecture. Lodewijk's motto Plus est en vous ('there is more in you') – has also become the guiding principle for the new museum presentation.

In addition to their exceptional aesthetic quality, the tapestries, paintings, sculptures, silverware, furniture, ceramics, lace, manuscripts, archive documents and everyday objects on show at the Gruuthusemuseum have fascinating stories to tell about Bruges.
In their newly restored home, they bring the city and its society to life.
